We talk a lot about success, hustle, and mental health, but not nearly enough about kindness. Somewhere along the way, kindness got labeled as “soft” — something you practice when you have extra time, not as a way of living. But the truth is, kindness is power. It changes the person who gives it and the person who receives it.
When I created The Everything is AOK Teen Journal, I wanted to remind teens that kindness isn’t weakness, t’s strength under control. It’s being able to see the world through compassion, even when life feels unfair.
The phrase Everything is AOK started as a personal mantra in our home; a reminder that no matter what happens, you can face it with grace, courage, and love.
It became the heartbeat of the STAMINA Foundation, and later, a movement for youth who needed to hear that message most. Because when you’ve lived through tough moments, like my husband Derek did growing up without a home, you understand that kindness isn’t just something nice to do. It’s survival. It’s hope in action.
Here’s what I’ve seen firsthand: when teens experience kindness, they give it back. When they give it back, they find purpose. And when they find purpose, confidence and peace follow.
That’s the chain reaction kindness creates.
A kind teen becomes a grounded adult. A grounded adult becomes a leader who uplifts others.
Let’s be honest, the world often rewards attention, not intention. Likes can feel more important than love. But teens who are raised to value character over clout are the ones who change culture, not chase it.
Parents, this starts with us.
When we show empathy in our homes, our teens learn empathy in their hearts. When we speak kindly about others, they do too. The words we use when no one’s watching teach louder than lectures ever will.
Acts of kindness trigger the release of serotonin and oxytocin, the “feel good” chemicals that help regulate mood and stress. It’s science proving what faith has always taught: what you give comes back to you.
That’s why kindness and mental health go hand in hand. A teen who practices compassion toward others, and themselves, builds emotional balance and self-worth.
Inside the Everything is AOK Teen Journal, kindness isn’t just a topic, it’s a lifestyle. Teens are encouraged to reflect on:
Acts of kindness they gave or received
Gratitude lists for the little things
Faith moments that shaped their day
It’s journaling with heart, not for likes, but for life.
You’ll meet people who misunderstand your softness. Keep it anyway. You’ll face moments that make kindness feel too heavy. Practice it anyway.
Because kindness is never wasted. Even if it doesn’t change them, it will always change you.
Your teen won’t just listen to what you say, they’ll mirror what you do. Let them see you give grace, even when it’s hard. Let them see you choose patience when life tests you. Those moments plant seeds they’ll carry into adulthood.
Everything is AOK isn’t about pretending everything’s perfect. It’s about believing that with faith, kindness, and love; you can handle whatever comes your way.
Kindness still wins. It always has.
